A Blissful Life 6/10/2026: Before the Next Chapter
There is a tendency in our culture to always look ahead. What’s next? What’s the next goal? What’s the next training, trip, relationship, promotion, achievement, or milestone? We spend so much time preparing for the next chapter that we often forget to fully absorb the one we just lived.
In yoga, we call this integration. It’s the period after the practice where the effects of the work begin to settle. It’s why savasana isn’t optional, why the pause between breaths matters, and why stillness is not separate from the practice– it is the practice.
Nature understands this principle well. A seed does not become a tree overnight. After a period of growth, there is a period of assimilation. Roots deepen, nutrients are absorbed, and what was gathered is transformed into something useful.
Human beings are no different. Many of us spend years seeking knowledge, healing, wisdom, experiences, and transformation. We attend workshops, we read books, we listen to podcasts, we travel, we take trainings, and we move through challenges that crack us open and reveal new parts of ourselves.
But growth doesn’t happen simply because something meaningful occurred. Growth happens when we take the time to integrate what we’ve learned.
I often see this in yoga students. Someone has a breakthrough in class. Maybe they discover a new way of breathing. Maybe they find a moment of peace they’ve been searching for. Maybe they realize they’ve been holding tension, resentment, fear, or grief for far longer than they knew. That realization is important. But the real work begins afterward.
Will they make different choices? Will they create new habits? Will they continue to return to that awareness once they leave the yoga mat? Without integration, even the most profound experience can become just another memory. With integration, a single moment can change the trajectory of a life.
This is why I encourage students to leave a little space after practice whenever possible. Not to immediately reach for their phones. Not to rush to the next thing. Just a few moments to notice.
What feels different? What feels clearer? What am I taking with me?
The answers don’t always arrive immediately. Sometimes integration looks like rest. Sometimes it looks like reflection. Sometimes it looks like taking one small action that aligns with a new truth you’ve discovered. And sometimes it looks like doing absolutely nothing except allowing yourself to be where you are.
As we move deeper into the summer season, there is a natural tendency to fill every weekend, every evening, and every open space on the calendar. There is beauty in adventure, celebration, and new experiences. But there is also wisdom in creating room to digest them. The goal is not to experience more and more. The goal is to become more and more ourselves. That requires pauses. It requires listening. It requires trust. The next chapter will come soon enough. Life has a way of continually inviting us forward.
Before rushing to meet it, take a moment to honor where you are right now. Breathe. Reflect. Integrate. You may discover that the transformation you’ve been seeking has already begun.
If you’d like a space to slow down, reconnect, and integrate, we’d love to welcome you at Ocean Bliss. Sometimes all it takes is one intentional breath to remember what matters most. Book a class: oceanblissyoga.net | Follow me on Instagram: @jenkelleherwellness
